A working progress

Just a sneak peak at something I'm currently working on. A glimpse of a work in progress.

What became of it

So, after graduation, the huge pieces of unstretched painted canvas almost became rolls of forgotten art in a storage room.
I reworked most of the pieces, devided them into smaller panels,
stretched them, embroided, and sold.
This is what became of it...

I was commissioned to do 2 artworks for the South African Embassy in Lesotho, along with established artists such as Diane Victor, Jan van der Merwe, Gordon Fraud.

This work, 'Blou gedagte vir Bibi Slippers', sold just 2hours after I delivered it to the gallery. The manager didn't even had the time to hang it yet.

I wanted to keep this one for myself, and it hung in my house for 2 years before I parted with it.

And this one is to remember. It remains as it were, no reworking, just stretched in three panels. My parents thought to save one. Such an excellent thought.

Two are still in the process of becoming something more...

Such a long time ago

I completed my degree in Fine Art at the University of Pretoria in 2007.
Bravely decided to specialize in painting in my Final Year, though the medium was (and still are in some circles) thought of as "outdated" in a world of contemporary art and it's endless possibilities, I loved it, and still do.

for Erdmann Contemporary, a while ago...

I went to view the Beezy Baily exhibition, Icon/Iconoclast, at Everard Read this weekend, TWICE! What a treat. I am such a fan of his work.
And it made me remember,
it reminded me of this exhibition.
I was privileged to be invited to be part of a group exhibition at ErdmannContemporary in Cape Town, such an honour. Thank you Carla Erasmus (http://www.carlaerasmus.blogspot.com/). Beezy Baily also attended, and this made me proud...

When I started to art:

And so begins my fascination with white branches...
